Ignazio Macchiarella is assistant professor of Ethnomusicology at the Department of Storia, Beni Culturali e Territorio, University of Cagliari (Italy). His main interests are: Multipart Singing; Music and Ritual; Analysis of Oral Music Patterns; Improvisation in Vocal Music; Music and Identities.
At present he is: Chair of Italian National Committee of the ICTM (International Council for Traditional Music/Unesco), Vice-chairman of the Study Group on Multipart Singing of the ICTM. He published books, essays, articles and reviews in specialized national and international journals, in Italian, English, French, German and Spanish.
